Political Scientist: Kyiv Refused To React To Lukashenka's Blackmail
Oleksandr Musiyenko

Putin lost an important trump card.

Recently, Lukashenka reported the entry of Ukrainian drones into the territory of Belarus, and then the transfer of troops to the border with Ukraine.

What is behind all this? Charter97.org turned to political expert, head of the Ukrainian Center for Military and Legal Research Oleksandr Musiyenko for a comment:

— It's very simple: Lukashenka received instructions from Putin that it is necessary to redeploy troops to the border with Ukraine in order to try to pull back Ukrainian troops involved in the offensive operation in the Kursk region.

— How do they perceive these threats from the Belarusian dictator in Ukraine?

— I would like to draw attention to how calmly Ukraine reacted. Today, we have excellent control over the border with the forces and troops that are involved there. There were corresponding exercises, the border is well fortified, all approaches are mined. Therefore, the threats did not work.

In Ukraine, they understand perfectly well that the Belarusian army is not ready for a war against it, no matter what Lukashenka tried to demonstrate to Putin.

The Belarusian ruler himself understands this, since he realizes that at some point the Belarusian army may disobey the order and turn against him. There is a very fine line here, so he performs ceremonial functions. Putin gives orders, and Lukashenka imitates vigorous activity, showing photos and videos of the transfer of troops, but today the most important thing is missing — the readiness to use Belarusian troops, and Kyiv understands this.

It is clear that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not leave the border with Belarus without a military presence. It is reinforced, there are enough forces and means there to contain and prevent the Belarusian army from advancing if such an invasion occurs. Nevertheless, no one in Kyiv fell for this blackmail. This means that Putin has lost this trump card.

— Lukashenka started talking about the Ukrainian troops advancing 35 kilometers into the Kursk region. Is he trying to project this situation on himself?

— I think he is studying the history of Romania right now. I would like to remind you that Romania supported Hitler during World War II, but when it saw that his troops were starting to suffer defeat and retreat, it entered into negotiations with the USSR. As a result, it also helped the Red Army.

I think that Lukashenka is currently thinking about how and where to try to do something to defect.
