Poland's Ex-Deputy Defence Minister Calls To Create Belarusian Legion On Polish Territory
WALDEMAR SKRZYPCZAK

Poland has the right to participate in accelerating the fall of Lukashenka's regime.

The Ukrainian Legion is already functioning in Poland. Within its framework, Ukrainian citizens undergo military training before signing a contract with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Retired Lieutenant General Waldemar Skrzypczak, Poland's former deputy defence minister and former commander of the ground forces, proposes creating a similar unit - the Belarusian Legion - in his analysis for Wprost.pl.

‘We are not direct participants in the war in Ukraine. We are supporting a neighbour at war as part of a coalition. We provide assistance, among other things, by training the Ukrainian Legion. Why not start forming the Belarusian Legion?’ asks the former ground forces commander.

The Polish general says that Aliaksandr Lukashenka has ‘the blood of thousands of innocents on his hands.’ He believes that if Putin tries to stop military action in Ukraine, one of the conditions for entering into negotiations involving the West should be that the Belarusian dictator is handed over to an international tribunal.

‘Poland, as a state attacked by Belarus, has the right to participate in settling scores with Lukashenka's assassination team and, above all, in accelerating the fall of his regime,’ he said.

The retired military officer notes ‘that Lukashenka's adventurism is driven by not being constrained enough by the EU. Therefore, he urges Brussels to ‘tighten the noose around the neck of the Belarusian dictator.’

‘We need to gather hundreds of Brussels officials and bring them to our border with Belarus. Maybe it will encourage them to think about the security and the future of Europe,’ Skrzypczak emphasised.

The general notes that ‘the number of Belarusian citizens in forced emigration is high.’

‘The Kalinouski regiment, recruited from Belarusians, is fighting in Ukraine. What prevents the EU from starting to set well-defined conditions for Lukashenka?’ Waldemar Skrzypczak asks, calling ‘to bill Minsk for banditry’.
