Despite sanctions.

A plane from Belarus entered Lithuanian territory on Friday morning. After flying between Alytus and Druskininkai, it reached Poland and continued turning south, according to data from the Flightradar24 flight tracking portal. The company responsible for airspace explained whether the plane could have flown into Lithuania, writes delfi.lt.

Judging by the speed — over 800 km per hour — it is an airplane (approximately the same cruising speed of civil aviation aircraft). At the same time, the portal also indicates the type of aircraft, from which it can be assumed that it is a private jet. No additional information is provided. This flight attracted the attention of a Delfi reader. The air traffic control and communications company Oro navigacija commented to Delfi that this plane did not violate the sanctions regime.

“The country of registration of the aircraft is Turkey (TCMAY), the flight was carried out from Minsk (Belarus) to Istanbul (Turkey), the aircraft was flying without passengers. Sanctions do not apply to such flights, so this aircraft could cross the airspace of Lithuania,” the response says.

The aircraft is currently flying over Romania.

Since May 25, 2021, the Lithuanian government has banned the arrival and departure of aircraft from Lithuanian airports if their flight is carried out through the airspace of Belarus. Currently, aircraft of Belarusian air carriers are prohibited from landing, taking off and flying over the territory of the European Union.
