Ukraine Reports ‘Filtration Measures” Being Conducted By Belarus

An infographic listing the risks has been published.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has warned about “filtration measures” that Ukrainians are subjected to when traveling to Belarus.

“A country that supported Russia, which unleashed a war against Ukraine, cannot be safe to visit,” wrote Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.

The politician published an infographic listing the risks associated with traveling to Belarus:

upon arrival, Ukrainian citizens will be subject to filtration measures (questioning about the purpose of their visit, personal data, political views, etc.);

Personal phones are seized for more in-depth analysis — they are connected to specialized “forensic software” in order to extract information from Telegram, Signal, WhatsApp and other messengers. Even deleted dialogues or individual messages are restored. At this stage, there is a risk of being detained, because the interpretation of information received from the phone can be unpredictable and entail liability in the form of imprisonment;

In the presence of information or transfer of data that are sensitive for the Belarusian authorities, there are cases of deportation from the country or accusations that entail criminal liability under the article on extremism;

Citizens of Ukraine in Belarus, as in the Russian Federation, are subject to close attention from special services and the police.
