Belarusian Embassy Advises Against Using Words ‘Kirkorov’ And ‘Kirpich’ In Iran

To avoid awkward situations.

The Belarusian Embassy in Iran has published recommendations for those Belarusians who want to visit Iran.

The diplomatic mission advises against using certain words.

For example, it is better not to pronounce words like “abrikos” (translated as “apricot”), “kosmos” (cosmos), “kirpich” (brick), “Kirkorov” and others that contain the sound combinations “kir” and “kos”. It turns out that these combinations mean reproductive organs in Farsi.

To avoid awkward situations, diplomats advise refraining from frequent use of kisses, sign language and violating the personal space of local residents.

The following gestures are considered offensive in Iran: “a hand clenched into a fist with a raised thumb”, “a raised middle finger”, “a movement of the right or left hand showing a blow to the chin from beneath”. One should avoid such gestures.
