Siarhei Tsikhanouski Turns 46

The political prisoner celebrated his birthday behind bars.

The leader of the Belarusian opposition, political prisoner Siarhei Tsikhanouski turns 46 today.

The blogger and politician has been behind bars since May 29, 2020.

The presidential candidate and author of the YouTube channel "Country for Life" Siarhei Tsikhanouski was detained in Hrodna in May 2020 during one of his trips around the country.

In December 2021, Siarhei Tsikhanouski was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum security prison. He was tried as well as many other activists. In August 2022, the politician was transferred to the harshest prison regime for three years. In mid-January 2023, a case was opened against the opposition leader for "malicious disobedience to the demands of the administration of the correctional facility." As a result, in February 2023, the political prisoner was sentenced to another year and a half of imprisonment in addition to 18 years in prison.
