Large Production Of Fake Belarusian Cigarettes Found In Russia

The Federal Security Service found illegal production of Belarusian brands of cigarettes at the Kaluga tobacco factory, RBC reports.

FSB officers seized documents at the Kaluga tobacco factory, its warehouses and offices of companies dependent on it. Tax officials also took part in the operation. The inspection was carried out in the course of measures to suppress the production of counterfeit cigarettes and tax evasion.

In particular, the law enforcers found fake cigarettes such as Marlboro, Kent, Rothmans, as well as Belarusian ones - Karona Kalipso in the warehouses of the Kaluga factory. They were produced under the guise of real ones.

In total, more than 6.2 million packets of cigarettes, about 300 thousand fake excise stamps of Belarus and 500 thousand fake stamps of "Goznak," which were put on counterfeit tobacco products, were seized.

The value of the seized counterfeit cigarettes was estimated at about 800 million Russian rubles (just over $9 million).
