The US President said that not since Napoleon has Europe looked over its shoulder and worried about Russia.
US President Joe Biden, speaking at the Democratic Party convention in Chicago, recalled the words of the late former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that Europe has not looked over its shoulder at Russia without worrying since Napoleon.
"I spent a total of about 190 hours with heads of state to strengthen NATO. We did this by adding Finland and Sweden to NATO. Ten days before his death, Henry Kissinger called and said, not since Napoleon has Europe looked over its shoulder and worried about Russia," the American president said (quoted by C-SPAN).
Kissinger died in November 2023. He held key positions in the US administration during the Cold War, was an ideologist of détente with the USSR, and also restored ties with China.
