'Beslan Mothers' Ask Putin Difficult Question

Russian propagandists cut it out.

Putin met with representatives of the Beslan Mothers Russian organization during his visit to Beslan. As the co-chair of the committee,Aneta Gadieva, told the Agency, the women complained about the 20-year-long investigation of the terrorist attack and reminded the president of his 2005 promise to provide them with "the whole truth." In response, Putin said that he was not aware of the details of the investigation, and promised to involve the head of the Investigating Committee, Alexander Bastrykin.

According to Gadieva, the main part of the conversation was devoted to the investigation. They complained to Putin that for 20 years the investigation has not been closed, is carried out "formally" and did not take into account the facts that emerged during the trials. “[They said] that we believe that there was no real investigation. And that we were at a meeting with him in 2005 and he promised us that he would take control, but this did not happen. And that it was because of this that we did not achieve any truth and reached Strasbourg, which made a decision on this case."

According to Gadieva, in response, Putin said that he did not know about the protracted investigation and much about it. "He said that [it is necessary] to turn to Bastrykin so that he could enter the essence of the matter and control what is happening there, at what stage and what is being done," she said.

"It was said that if at one time the people who were responsible for security had been brought to justice, then today, perhaps, the law enforcement agencies would work more effectively and terrorist attacks would not be repeated," she added.

The Beslan Mothers also suggested that Putin adopt a law on the status of victims of terrorist attacks so that the victims could solve their social problems and be protected. “He said it could be considered. He said that this issue should be raised and discussed at the government meeting," Gadiyeva said.

The Russia 24 showed a fragment of the meeting of the head of the Kremlin with three representatives of the Beslan Mothers committee. In it, Putin does not talk about the investigation of the terrorist attack, but only talks about the connection of "enemies of Russia" with the terrorist attack in Beslan, and also connects it with the war in Ukraine and the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. "Just as we achieved our goals in the fight against terrorism, we will achieve these goals in this direction, in the fight against neo-Nazism," Putin said.
