‘They Relaxed’: Mass Drone Raid On Moscow Becomes Possible

The Ukrainian attack is no accident.

On August 21, UAVs attacked Russian regions, including Moscow Region. Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Centre for Military and Legal Studies, spoke on the air of Radio NV about what this drone raid is indicative of.

‘This is systematic daily work that continues. Ukraine can now afford to carry out more frequent attacks in greater numbers. This is due to increased production, different types of drones coming into service,’ Musienko said.

He explained why UAVs started attacking Moscow region as well:

‘It seems to me it is because more drones have appeared just now, and they can be used more effectively, considering that even if the Russian air defence shoots down five to eight out of 10 drones, two or three can still fly to the target that is needed, <...> Russian air defence can't shoot down all 100% of them at a time.’

At the same time, the expert suggested what else could have caused the attack on this area of the Russian Federation:

‘I think the attack was there for a reason, because it is possible that perhaps Ukrainian intelligence became aware that certain forces and means Russia had redeployed [there]. They relaxed, thought that there would be no attacks on Moscow, and perhaps they decided to take advantage of that as well. But I think the determining factor is still the production and increase in the number of drones, which makes it possible to raise the frequency of attacks, and as a consequence, the effectiveness.’

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, a total of 45 drones were allegedly shot down over Russian territory during the night of August 21, 11 of which were over Moscow Region.
