AFU Advance In Kursk Region Using HIMARS

Details of the offensive from ISW analysts.

On Wednesday, August 21, Ukrainian troops achieved a slight advance in the operation in the Kursk section of the front. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The analysts reminded of the published footage released by Ukraine's Special Operations Forces (SOF) showing the aftermath of AFU strikes on several pontoon bridges and bridgeheads along the Seim River in Glushkovo district, which is west of the area of the current Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region.

‘The SOF suggested that during some of the strikes on the pontoon bridges, Ukrainian forces might have used HIMARS multiple rocket launchers. At the same time, experts suggested that the Ukrainian military used small-diameter aerial cluster bombs,’ the analysts say.

At the same time, geolocation footage published on August 21 shows drone operators of the 155th Marine Infantry Brigade conducting strikes against Ukrainian forces in and around Vishnevka (south of Korenevo and 14 km from the international border), confirming the Ukrainian forces' advancement deep into and beyond the settlement.

‘Ukrainian forces are holding positions in forest areas east of Aleksandrovka (northeast of Korenevo and 33 kilometres from the international border). Units of the Russian 200th Guards Motorised Rifle Brigade are holding positions along the 38N-564 highway east of Zhuravli (east of Korenevo and 21km from the international border). This indicates that the Russians have either recently occupied these positions or that Ukrainian forces have not yet closed the small ledge along the 38N-564 road near Zhuravli,’ the ISW report said.

The analysts also mentioned that Russian bloggers continued to claim that Ukrainian forces were advancing north of Sudzha near Malaya Loknia and surrounding Russian forces in Martynovka (northeast of Sudzha and 19 kilometres from the international border).

‘According to their reports, units of the Russian 810th Independent Marine Brigade are encircled in Martynovka. The geolocation footage published on August 21 indicates that the AFU have advanced to the southern part of Russkaya Konopelka (east of Sudzha and 12 km from the international border),’ the Institute for the Study of War stressed.
