The Pentagon has issued an official statement.
The US allows Ukraine to use American weapons against targets in the Kursk region of Russia. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said during a briefing.
According to her, this is necessary so that Ukrainians can defend themselves against attacks from the border region of the Russian Federation.
She noted that the US supports Ukraine in what it needs on the battlefield now. Moreover, Washington is beginning to better understand what the Armed Forces of Ukraine are doing in the Kursk region.
"Our policy allows them to participate in such counterattacks. But we still support Ukraine in what it needs on the battlefield. This will not change," she said.
In addition, Singh added that the US still does not know the goals of the Ukrainian forces' operation in the Kursk region. She recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the offensive was intended to create a buffer zone.
According to her, the Pentagon still has questions about how the Kursk operation “fits into strategic objectives on the battlefield.” She said that creating a buffer zone would mean building multiple defensive lines.
