IV Cancer Stage Political Prisoner Pavel Kuchynski Was Released Today
Pavel Kuchynski

Before that, he was taken to the hospital with pneumonia.

Pavel Kuchynski, an oncological political prisoner, was released. This was announced by human rights activist Aliaksandr Kaputski on Facebook.

"Good news came to me from Maladzechna: Pavel Kuchynski, an oncological political prisoner, was released. However, as his friend reports, the man was brought from the prison hospital to the city hospital in a not very, to put it mildly, satisfactory condition — with pneumonia."

The young political prisoner has the first group of disability — he has Hodgkin's lymphoma of the fourth stage. Despite the cancer, he was kept in prison for more than two years. In June of the year before last, he was sentenced to five years in prison, and on appeal, his sentence was reduced by only three months. At the same time, the court did not consider replacing the sentence with a non-custodial one, Viasna HRC writes.

In August, Viasna's lawyers, concerned about Pavel's health, prepared and sent an appeal to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.

Last Friday, it became known that 30 people (16 men and 14 women) were released on "pardon". Among them are Ksenia Lutskina, Volha Novikava, Alla Zueva, Volha Stabrouskaia, Vasil Berasneu, Iryna Sankouskaia, Katsiaryna Leu, Natallia Petrovich, Tamara Karavai, Sviatlana Paluektova, Yuhen Chumila.
