Russians Suffering Huge Losses

What has been notable for the week.

The Information Resistance group continues to collect data on Russian soldiers who were recognized as killed or publicly buried in Russia.

As of August 19, 2024, our database contains 66,574 people for whom there is complete information, and more than 450 names where there are some discrepancies.

Over the week, the number of losses recognized in the Russian Federation has increased by 1,056. The number of relatively recent losses, which are recognized in the Russian Federation, is about 120 killed soldiers per day.

The Russian project Mediazona and the Russian BBC service have not updated their data since August 2; they have 61,831 people on their list.

I never tire of repeating that these are the MINIMUM numbers of killed. They do not reflect the real number (which is several times higher), but they allow us to capture some trends.

What has been notable for the week.

1. A spot inspection of cemeteries in the regions of the Russian Federation confirms that the scale of hidden losses has yet to be established. For example, a partial inspection of the Morskoye cemetery in Vladivostok led to an increase in the number of recorded losses in Primorsky Territory by 8%.

There are three main cemeteries in Vladivostok, and occupiers killed in Ukraine are also buried in Ussuriysk, in the village of Galenki and other places. We have partial data on Ussuriysk — 62 burials have been recorded. But we have no information on Galenki. And the place is interesting.

Like many other settlements in Primorye, Galenki was founded in 1892 by immigrants from Ukraine (from the Konotop district). 40 years ago, the Eastern Center for Deep Space Communications was opened there, where the largest fully rotating radio telescope in the Russian Federation is located (only the one in the occupied Crimea is larger). In general, it will have to be figured out.

The dynamics of the participation of units from the region in military operations is visible. Thus, in June, coffins were actively sent to Primorsky Territory, in July there was a lull, the recorded losses decreased threefold, in August everything returned to the previous level, i.e., they replenished and resumed meat assaults.

The losses from Primorye are largely the ones of the 155th Marine Brigade. It has already buried three of its units in Ukraine.

Clarification from cemeteries increased the loss figures in the Oryol region by 14%, in Tomsk — 9%, etc.

It is worth emphasizing that the inspected places are those with free access. And there are many places where there is no access or it is complicated. Especially in the provinces.

2. A cursory analysis of the data on losses shows that the average life expectancy of a mercenary in the Russian Army is up to two months. Now there is a stream of messages like “signed a contract in June — killed in July”. The hypotheses about the rich regions buying mercenaries from poorer ones are clearly confirmed. Of interest was a mercenary from Belgorod: he sold himself at a higher price — signed a contract in Moscow, returned to the Belgorod region, and spent two months harvesting timber. In May, he went to the Kharkiv region to attack from Kupyansk. That’s where he ended his existence.

3. The gap in losses between the regions continues to grow. In Belgorod, 11 people were considered killed in a week. This is the same as the total (!) in Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, and Karachay-Cherkessia. In Moscow there were 6. Moscow and the Caucasus are fighting mainly on TikTok. It’s the others who are dying.
