Ukraine Attack ‘Engels’ Airfield: Experts Explain Intent Of Attack

Probably, the ‘Bober’ type UAVs were used for the attack.

Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian city of Saratov and the suburb of Engels, where the Russian Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic aircraft aerodrome is located.

According to Defence Express, during the raid, the UAVs flew into high-rise residential buildings. In particular, one of them hit the tallest building in Saratov and Volga region - a 128-metre 38-storey building of the Volga-Sky residential complex. Another drone hit the upper floors of a high-rise apartment complex in Engels itself.

Analysts said it was not yet known which drones were used for the attack, but they spotted Bober-type UAVs in some of the videos. The Russians claim to have shot down 20 UAVs at once.

‘It is quite possible that the intention of this attack was to target Engels when Russian strategic bombers, which were involved in today's shelling of Ukraine, staying there, were taking off or landing,’ experts suggest.

The invaders are known to have brought at least 11 Tu-95MS into the air today to attack Ukraine.

The Attack on ‘Engels’

This is not the first Ukrainian attack on the said military facility of the Russians. In April, Ukraine seriously damaged at least three Tu-95MS strategic bombers at the Engels-2 airfield.
