Belarusian Authorities Ban Polish Diapers Import

From October 15.

The lists of goods prohibited for import and sale on the territory of Belarus have been supplemented, the press service of the government reported. Now it is impossible to import from "unfriendly countries", for example, paper and close, and specifically from Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia — wallpaper and suitcases.

The new resolution was signed by Prime Minister Roman Halavchenka. According to the document, "the list of goods prohibited for import and sale in the territory of the Republic of Belarus originating from unfriendly countries" is supplemented with the following items:

high-pressure polyethylene;

tires;

OSB slabs;

plywood;

joinery and carpentry products;

paper and sanitary and hygienic products;

paper and cardboard, including corrugated;

clothes;

glass fibre, including glass wool.

And the list of goods specifically from Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, prohibited for import and sale in Belarus, includes:

bags and suitcases;

wallpaper;

ceramic tiles;

sanitary ware;

refrigerators;

freezers and other refrigeration or freezing equipment;

washing machines;

diapers;

"The signed resolution is a response to the decisions taken by the European Union to expand sanctions against the Republic of Belarus from July 1, 2024," the explanatory note reads.

These measures will come into force on October 15, 2024.

Recall that in August, the list of goods from "unfriendly" countries prohibited for import and sale on the territory of Belarus was already supplemented. Then margarine, pasta, cement and products made of it, nitrogen fertilizers, plastic utensils, chipboard and MDF boards, boxes, bags and other packaging containers made of paper and cardboard, as well as building bricks were added to the blacklist.

The previous measures were also a response to the expansion of sanctions. As reported, on June 29, the EU Council extended to Belarus the sanctions that had previously been imposed against Russia. The new restrictions are aimed at trade, services, transport and preventing the circumvention of existing sanctions. This includes a ban on imports of gold, diamonds, helium, coal, and crude oil from Belarus.
