‘Heavy Fight’ Ahead: AFU's Plan In Kursk Region Becomes Known

The data was voiced by the representative of the US intelligence.

Ukraine intends to keep the territory occupied by Russia during the offensive, a US intelligence official has said. This was stated on Wednesday by CIA Deputy Director David Cohen, Reuters news agency reported.

According to the senior U.S. intelligence official, Putin will launch a counter-offensive to try to regain territory in Kursk region, but the Russian army will face a ‘tough fight.’

Cohen said at a national security conference that the scale of the Ukrainian invasion, which has covered about 300 square miles (about 800 square kilometres) of Russian territory, had yet to be assessed.

‘We can be confident that Putin will launch a counter-offensive to try to reclaim that territory. We expect this to be an uphill battle for the Russians,’ Cohen emphasised.

He said the Kremlin would have to ‘deal with the reactions in its own society’ over the loss of Russian territory.

Ukraine claimed to have captured 100 settlements in its invasion of Russia's Kursk region. Earlier, Putin said any deal must start with Ukraine accepting ‘realities on the ground’, with Russia planning to retain control over parts of occupied Ukrainian regions as well as Crimea.

Ukraine now claims to control over 1,200 square metres of Russia's Kursk region. In all likelihood, Putin will now have to accept ‘realities on the ground’ for himself as well.
