Media: Russian Drone Shot Down Over Belarus For The First Time

They have been penetrating the country more often recently.

On the night of Thursday, August 29, Belarus used aviation for the first time to shoot down a Russian Shahed-type attack UAV, which again attacked Ukraine en masse at night, zn.ua reports citing the Belaruski Hayun Telegram channel.

According to the resource, one of the Shaheds flew into Belarus again tonight, crossing the border in the Yelsk district. This happened at about 03:30.

“After the Shahed crossed the Belarusian airspace, a fighter jet of the Belarusian Air Force chased the intruder for about 20 minutes, and at about 03:55 in the Yelsk district of the Homel region, at least two explosions were heard and a bright flash in the sky was visible,” the report reads.

The monitoring group notes that this is probably the first recorded case of a Belarusian fighter jet attempting to destroy a real military target in the sky, and it was a Russian kamikaze drone.

It should be noted that Russian drones have recently been frequently flying into Belarusian airspace. Thus, during the air attack on Ukraine on the night of August 27, at least six suicide bombers flew into Belarus, and their movements were monitored by Russian aircraft all night.
