‘That’s A Joke!’: Russians Outraged By Olympic Final Judging, Where Belarusian Bardzilouskaya Won Silver

The Russian took only fifth place.
On August 2, Belarusian Vijaleta Bardzilouskaya won a silver medal at the Games in Paris. Russian Anzhela Bladtseva took fifth place, which was considered unfair in her country.
The top three winners of the trampoline competition were as follows: Briton Bryony Paige scored 56.480 points, Belarusian Bardzilouskaya — 56.060, Canadian Sofiane Methot — 55.650. Bladtseva, who, like Bardzilouskaya, competed under a neutral flag, was given a score of 55.020.
“The judging is simply biased. Anzhela was given a point less than she should have been given, it's just a joke! They'll probably sort it out with the judges, but there’s no point crying over spilt milk, so to speak. We need to calm Anzhela down, we need to keep working, but she really could have won. But she didn't come close to the start, the height wasn't very good, but the score for technique is just not hers, it's impossible. The same as Bryony Page getting more than Bladtseva, it's just a joke,” said Nikolai Makarov, head of the Russian Trampoline Federation.
Bladtseva's coach Alexei Ryzhkov echoed him: “We have very serious complaints, questions about the judging. Anzhela is a top-level athlete, she couldn't have gotten such a low score for technique in any case. But professionals will understand this, unfortunately, we have what we have. Yes, she failed to cope with her nerves somewhere — well, she's young. Well, to be honest... It's just not clear”.
According to Ryzhkov, Bladtseva “should have been in the top three 100 percent even with such a performance”.
In Belarus, no one spoke about the judging. But Bardzilouskaya, for example, did not think after the finals that Paige was stronger than her. Although Vijaleta admitted several of her mistakes.
