Without waiting for an attack.
Expecting an Iranian attack in response to the assassination of Hamas Politburo leader Ismail Haniyeh, Israel is considering the possibility of preemptive action, the Times of Israel writes.
Thus, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the military does not yet have a “final picture” of what a new Iranian attack will be. However, Jerusalem may launch a preemptive strike, in particular in Lebanon and “in other places where it is necessary.”
The Wall Street Journal writes that Tehran has rejected US calls to restrain itself from a new attack on Israel after the death of Ghaniyeh. According to the publication’s sources, Iranian officials said that they do not care whether this attack leads to a new war or not.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told his G7 colleagues that a new attack by Iran, together with the Lebanese Islamist group Hezbollah, could begin as early as Monday, August 5.
