What Did Shoigu Promise Iran?

What Did Shoigu Promise Iran?
LEONID NEVZLIN

Israel will not be oversensitive.

The information of The New York Times about the possible supply of Russian air defence systems to Iran is especially interesting against the backdrop of the April events. Namely, Israel's response to the attempt to strike Iran using an unprecedented number of missiles and drones, which was repelled by the forces of the international coalition.

Israel then attacked Iranian air defence systems covering one of the regime's key nuclear facilities at Natanz. At the same time, the nuclear facility itself was not attacked. Analysts called the attack a signal to Tehran that Israel could overcome Iranian defences and strike at the most sensitive places. Then the escalation stopped.

Probably, now Shoigu has brought to Iran options for solving this problem. Russia can promise Ayatollah Khamenei protection of the most valuable achievement of his bloody regime — the possibility of creating a nuclear bomb. Energy facilities, as well as a deep-water port, which provide the Iranian economy, also need protection. There was information in the world media that the Russian Federation had already supplied Iran with electronic warfare systems and even Iskander missiles.

By endlessly announcing “retaliation against Israel,” Tehran is likely weighing the risks of escalation and regional war against itself. And these risks are great — in the event of a large-scale attack, Israel will not show excessive delicacy.
