Russia Allowed To Import 'Surrogate Wine' From Belarus

Some drink names copy the names of famous European wines.

Russian importers received the right to import wine from another Belarusian enterprise — the Minsk Sparkling Wine Factory. At the same time, the names of drinks indicated in the declarations of conformity are similar to the well-known names of European wines, RBC writes.

According to the publication, several Russian importers from April to August 2024 received permission to import products of the Minsk Sparkling Wine Plant into the Russian Federation under names similar to the well-known names of European wines. In total, seven such permits were received.

In addition, in September 2023 and January 2024, the Russian company Yugexim received declarations for the import of Bulgari Winery wine into the Russian Federation from the same plant. The importer's website states that the wines are Belarusian. At the same time, the wine under the same name is produced by a winery located in Moldova.

We will remind, earlier the head of the wine house "Abrau-Durso", Putin's special representative Boris Titov called the wines of Belarusian production "shmurdyak" [surrogate - Ed.]:

"The upcoming import of the Minsk Grape Wine Plant products into Russia is nothing more than the restoration of the domestic market's sales channel for products made from imported bulk wine. The same wine material, which in everyday life received the nickname Shmurdyak, "he said.
