Russian Human Rights Center Memorial calls for the fight for the release of Belarusian political prisoners and Ukrainian hostages in Russia.

Memorial issued its statement after the exchange of Russian political prisoners, journalists and opposition politicians who were in Russian prisons, and Russian citizens who committed crimes in other countries. The exchange involved the United States, Germany, Russia, Belarus and several other countries.

“When news appeared about Belarus' participation in the exchange, we hoped with bated breath that, in particular, our comrade from the Belarusian Viasna Ales Bialiatski and activist Maryja Kalesnikava would be released, but this did not happen,” the statement says.

It is specified that the Belarusian political prisoners “are in captivity, including due to the cooperation of the two dictatorships”.

Memorial called for continuing the fight for liberation and “remembering those who really need support, including Ukrainian hostages in Russia and Belarusian political prisoners.”
