Breaking Through Russian Border: New Details Of Battles In Kursk Region

Battles in Sudja are reported.

On August 6, the Ukrainian forces broke through the border with the Kursk region, in particular, fighting continues in the Sudzha and Korenevo districts. Focus told everything that is known about the current events on the territory of the Russian Federation.

The Sudzha offensive: how it all began?

On the morning of August 6, residents of two border districts of the Kursk region (Russian Federation) complained about the shooting and explosions. Acting Governor of the region Alexey Smirnov said that two districts are problematic — Sudzha and Korenevo.

At the same time, the media, citing the GUR (Ukrainian Defence Intelligence), said that border battles were being conducted near Kurilovka and Goncharovka in the Kursk region. The intelligence service refused to fully comment on the topic of "breakthrough", but said that RVC (Russian Volunteer Corps) fighters were not involved in "these actions".

On the afternoon of August 6, Alexey Smirnov reported that as a result of the mass shelling by Ukraine, there were allegedly dead and injured.

In the Russian social media during the day, information appeared that HMMWV military vehicles and Stryker armored personnel carriers were allegedly driving around the border of the Kursk region.

According to the Russians, Ukrainian fighters allegedly prepared a breakthrough for some time, and therefore pulled military vehicles to the border. In particular, the cars were allegedly painted with marks — triangles, which mean a grouping that will advance from the Sumy region towards Sudzha.

In the evening of August 6, Russian publics told about the battles in Sudzha, Kursk region. We are talking about artillery shelling, UAV units and all available firepower.

Alexey Smirnov said that a Ukrainian missile was allegedly destroyed over the Kursk region.

The FSB also commented on the breakthrough of the Russian border.

"On the morning of August 6, 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine committed an armed provocation on the state border of the Russian Federation within the Kursk region," the report reads.

According to the source of the VCheK-OGPU, in the evening of August 6, at least 15 fighters of the Akhmat unit were wounded in the Korenevo district, but their number may be higher.

"All of them 'dispersed' (fled) during the first strikes and the troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine went deep into the area," the report reads.

The Telegram channel also noted that the Ukrainian forces are allegedly pulling forces to the border to reattack the Kursk region.

The Russian edition of Mash reported that as of the evening, fighting continued on the border of the Kursk region. In particular, the main battles take place in the Sudzha and Korenevo districts. The regional operational headquarters and all emergency services have been switched to 24-hour operation.

Journalists said that the clash continues on the section of the 38K-004 highway near the Sudzha checkpoint and in the Gordeevka area.

"The AFU continues shelling and drone attacks. According to the latest data, three people were killed in the region, at least 20 were injured, including children," Russian journalists say.

Fighting in the Kursk region: what the Russia said

The Russian MoD reported that Ukrainian fighters allegedly attacked the positions of Russian units covering the state border in the Kursk region at 8 am (Moscow time). The enemy's defence department said that Ukraine was allegedly advancing with up to 300 soldiers from the 22nd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 11 tanks and more than 20 armored combat vehicles in the vicinity of the settlements of Nikolaevo-Daryino and Oleshnia.

In turn, the Russian Federation used reserves in the Kursk direction.

The Shkola Prizyvnika ("Conscript School") Russian human rights organization noted that in the Leningrad region conscripts were given a "shopping list", they are needed for a trip to the Kursk region. In particular, recruits are planned to be sent to the border with Ukraine after several months of service.

Thus, the conscript must independently buy backpacks, uniform, boots, balaclavas, shampoos, powders, shavers, multitools, underpants, tactical gloves, first-aid kits, full-length mats.

In the evening of August 6, the Russian media reported that during the breakthrough of the border in the Kursk region, the Ka-52 Alligator helicopter was destroyed.

Two tractors with T-62M tanks and two Kamaz trucks were also allegedly destroyed.

The Ukrainian forces captured the Russian military

The Ukrainian military managed to capture the Russian occupiers after breaking through the border. According to a soldier with the call sign "Balu", the Defense Forces captured about 35 soldiers of the Russian Federation, a number of them are conscripts.
