Kursk Offensive: One Of AFU Strongest Brigades Joins Fighting

There may be 10 thousand Ukrainian military in the invasion zone.

The participation of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, one of the best Ukrainian brigades, emphasises the scale of the Ukrainian operation north of Ukraine's northern border with Russia.

The Forbes publication writes that.

Western journalists, thanks to videos disseminated in the network, established that the 80 AABr is involved in the fighting on Russian territory. T-64BV, T-80BV tanks, UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle, IMR-2 engineer vehicle, as well as BTR-80 and American Stryker wheeled armoured personnel carriers were shown in the video. All vehicles are armoured with cages for drone protection.

"Only the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade uses such a combination of ex-Soviet and ex-American hardware," the publication writes.

Forbes notes that the participation of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, one of Ukraine's best brigades, emphasises the scale of the Ukrainian operation north of Ukraine's northern border with Russia.

According to media reports there have been previous attempts to cross the Russian border by Ukrainian formations of Russian citizens, but these raids were small in scale and limited - and never lasted more than a few days. Most of all, they were intended to make Russian leaders uncomfortable.

According to Forbes, the Ukrainian operation, which began on 6 August, is different, however. At least three brigades of up to 2,000 troops each are involved: the 22nd and 88th Mechanised Brigades and the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade. Artillery, drones and air defence play an important supporting role.

"It is becoming clearer with every passing hour that what is happening in Kursk is not a raid, but indeed an invasion. The fact that the Ukrainians are putting significant resources into this invasion certainly does not guarantee its success. There may be 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen in the invasion zone. The Russian Northern Group of Forces, which is fighting along the border strip, has about 48,000 troops. But the Northern Group of Forces is bogged down in Vovchansk, a Ukrainian border town 140 kilometres southeast of Sudzha, the Russian border town that is the site of the Ukrainian invasion," the publication writes.

It is noted that the decisive factor in the events in the Russian Federation may be how quickly the Northern Group of Forces can move forces to Sudzha, and if the Russian Armed Forces move slowly, they may lose much more territory in Kursk Region facing the advancing Ukrainian columns.
