Yahorau-Prakopyeu Faction And Several Parties Speak Out Against Tsikhanouskaya's ‘Eternal’ Powers

And declared a violation of the principles of democracy.

Representatives of the faction of the “Belarusians” coordination council, as well as the Narodnaya Hramada party, the BCD and the organizing committee for the creation of the “Country for Life” party made statements against Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's “eternal” powers, Radio Svaboda reports.

“We believe that the provision on the indefinite extension of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's mandate, enshrined in the “protocol on the interaction of the coordination council, the united transitional cabinet and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's office”, is unacceptable and undermines trust in all democratic forces in Belarus as a whole,” says a statement published on behalf of the Andrei Yahorau and Vadzim Prakopyeu faction.

The aforementioned protocol was signed during a conference organized by Tsikhanouskaya's office in Vilnius.

In a joint statement, Yahorau and Prakopyeu emphasized that any political leadership “must adhere to the principle of a clearly established temporary limitation of powers”. In their opinion, the absence of such a framework “creates the risk of reducing transparency in decision-making and reducing accountability to voters, and also violates the foundations of democracy.”

“In connection with the above, we declare that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's mandate will be invalid from August 9, 2025, until a new confirmation procedure is completed. Democratic forces must set an example by adhering to the principles of election and replaceability,” the statement says.

Representatives of the “Belarusians” faction emphasize that politicians claiming national leadership “must adhere to democratic norms, regardless of the current situation, and not seek to extend their powers for the sake of personal interests.”

“We call on representatives of the Latushka-Tsikhanouskaya coalition to avoid authoritarian practices and build political leadership based on democratic principles,” the statement says.

The Narodnaya Hramada and Belarusian Christian Democracy parties, as well as the organizing committee for the creation of the Country for Life party, also issued a statement against extending Tsikhanouskaya's powers beyond 2025.

“We do not agree with the decision made at the New Belarus conference to extend Tsikhanouskaya's legitimacy beyond 2025. It was made in violation of democratic principles and without coordination with the majority of political structures. We consider this a strategic mistake that plays into the hands of the Lukashenka regime and could lead to a split in the democratic forces,” the statement reads.

The signatories of the statement called for a dialogue with all democratic political forces.
