When will the law enforcers rise up against the dictator?
Natallia Radzina, Charter97.org editor-in-chief, believes that at some point the law enforcers may move to the side of the Belarusian people. She said this in an interview with the famous Russian journalist Yevgeny Kiselev:
"In 2020, unfortunately, they didn't do it, as they saw that Moscow was supporting Lukashenka. But if there is no support from Russia, if Russia itself faces problems (and this is inevitable as a result of the war), then I am convinced that the army and part of the Belarusian law enforcers will side with the people.
I think that during these four years there have been changes in their heads as well. I don't think that they all like to participate in repressions. Yes, there is a part (I'm sure it's small) that arrests oppositionists for money, for titles, for sadistic pleasure, searches for them everywhere, beats and tortures them. Such people are not the majority.
The majority, unfortunately, does not yet know what to do with Lukashenka. However, that there is discontent among the law enforcers, I am sure. At some point, when they realise that the regime has weakened, that Russia will not protect the criminals in power, I think they will side with the people".
Natallia Radzina believes that the nomenclature sees Lukashenka's inability to lead the country:
"You and I are not the only ones who realise that Lukashenka is a loser. Moreover, he is not able to govern the country today, he has surrendered it to Russia. And Belarusian officials understand this. They know that no good could come of the war that Putin has unleashed not only against Ukraine, but also against the whole West, and in which Belarus has been dragged to.
That is why I hope for the prudence of some Belarusian nomenclature representatives that they will be able to play their own game. It is difficult for me to say how it is possible in the current situation, but it seems to me that a window of opportunity is opening in Belarus".
