This is what the once prestigious Minsk gymnasium has turned into.
A Charter97.org reader from Minsk has reported on how the education in the gymnasium, attended by her son, looks like now:
‘The school year has not even started yet, and the parents’ chat in Telegram is buzzing! Until 2020 our Minsk gymnasium was considered to be prestigious, one could get into it only by donating a considerable sum to the account of the institution or by registering at the address territorially assigned to the gymnasium. And now it lacks the pedagogical staff.
How did this happen? It's very simple: first all socially active teachers were dismissed, then they began to suppress more and more the survivors of the purges with ideology and all sorts of nonsense. And teachers, not waiting for someone to come to them with handcuffs, started to quit.
Today in our school maths is taught by a doctor-psychologist (they say that a psychologist finds a better approach to children). Physics is taught by a software engineer - well, he surely understands something about physics, never mind that he has no experience of working with children. English is taught by students of 4-5 years of linguistic university (and this is in a school with advanced study of languages).
But most of all I am outraged and annoyed by the teacher of Belarusian language and literature. She teaches these subjects in Russian. Also English is taught in Russian in most of our schools.
So what quality of education can we talk about? It is absurd to teach one's native language in one's native country in a foreign language!
