Russia Expelles Six British Diplomats

Russia Expelles Six British Diplomats

They were accused of "subversive work".

The Federal Security Service of Russia made a statement that in the activities of six employees of the British Embassy who were in Russia through the Directorate of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the British Foreign Ministry, "signs of intelligence and subversive work" were found. On this basis, as stated in the FSB report, they were deprived of accreditation and expelled from the country, Radio Liberty reports.

The exact expel time did not reproted. Official London and the British Embassy in Moscow have not yet commented on the FSB statement, which also states that the Russian special service allegedly received documentary materials that confirm the UK's coordination of the "escalation of the international military and political situation."

The Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department itself, according to the FSB, was allegedly transformed after the outbreak of war in Ukraine into an intelligence service, the main task of which is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.

An FSB officer on the Rossiya-24 channel said, in particular, that the expelled British diplomats met with representatives of Russian civil society. Meetings with journalists from Novaya Gazeta, as well as human rights activists from Civic Assistance and Memorial International were named. According to an unnamed representative of the special service, these meetings showed "classic British espionage", and now the Russian authorities "are tired of tolerating this circus". As an example of "subversive activities", diplomats visited "some gathering of foreign agent NGOs engaged in lobbying the interests of migrants". Rossiya-24 also named the expelled diplomats as Jessica Davenport, Grace Alvin, Andrew Daft Callum, Katherine McDonnell, Thomas John Hickson and Blake Pattel. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also accused the British embassy in Moscow of harming the Russian people.
