Why the dictator should worry.
Ukrainian publicist Vitaly Portnikov believes that the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region made Lukashenko think about his future. He expressed this opinion in an interview with journalist Yevgeny Kiselyov:
— I would also be worried in his place. After all, if you think about it, in 2022, aggression was committed against Ukraine from the territory of Belarus. In this case, Ukrainian troops, if they had the opportunity, could have crossed the border with Belarus and reached Minsk. No one would blame Ukraine for taking control of Belarusian territory and putting an end to the existence of an aggressive regime that provided territory for an attack on our state.
Vitaly Portnikov is not sure that Belarusian troops will defend Lukashenka:
"There is a strong rejection of the aggressive course that Putin is pursuing in Belarusian society. Suppose the majority of Russians support the war. In that case, the majority of Belarusians are against it, not to mention that Belarusian society is frightened after 2020, when thousands of people are in prison. It is clear that if there is an opportunity to get rid of this regime, thousands of people will sigh in relief when Lukashenka flies to Rostov by helicopter.
Everyone in Belarus understands that Lukashenka is a Russian protege. This is a typical role of a puppet government, like during the Second World War.
And will Putin have enough troops to plug all the holes? Not enough. Lukashenka knows this."
