Usyk Was Detained At Krakow Airport

The famous Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, who was detained the day before at the airport of the Polish city of Krakow, he was released later. Sybiha spoke about the release of Usyk

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha revealed the details of the release of Usyk after his detention at the Krakow airport on X.

The official noted that representatives of the ministry, on behalf of the president, "immediately responded to the detention" of the champion in Krakow and "contributed to his release."

"Our Consul General told me the details. We consider such actions disproportionate and unacceptable in relation to our champion and will send a corresponding note to the Polish side," the Foreign Minister said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added that Sybiha "coordinated the actions of Ukrainian diplomats while on the border of Ukraine and Romania, where the Foreign Minister is now on his first foreign visit."

Detention of Usyk in Poland and release

Earlier it was reported that on September 17 in the evening it became known about the detention of Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk in Poland at the airport in Krakow. The athlete and People's Deputy Zhan Beleniuk published the corresponding video online.

After that, a message appeared from Usyk's wife Katerina, who wrote online that he was "all right, nothing criminal".

In a comment to RBC-Ukraine, Foreign Ministry speaker Heorhy Tsikhiy said that the Ukrainian side "categorically does not perceive the attitude towards its citizen and champion demonstrated on the video."

It should be noted that according to Usyk's promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk in the network on the situation with the detention of the champion, "everything is fine", and "no one was arrested", this is a "misunderstanding".

After midnight, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he communicated with Usyk by phone after his arrest. He said that the boxer had already been released in Poland.
