US Seizes Venezuelan Dictator's Plane In Dominican Republic

The US has seized Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro's plane in the Dominican Republic and sent it to Florida, CNN reported.

“The US transferred the plane to Florida on Monday, according to two US officials. It is the latest development in long-cold relations between the US and Venezuela, and its arrest in the Dominican Republic marks an escalation as the US continues to investigate what it sees as corruption by the Venezuelan government,” the channel reported.

A source from US President Joe Biden's administration also stressed that the purpose of the action was to demonstrate to the Venezuelan authorities that “no one is above the law”. Earlier, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the EU foreign ministers decided not to recognize Maduro as the democratically elected president of Venezuela. The politician therefore lacks “democratic legitimacy”, he noted.
