This was announced by the head of the European Commission.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has announced access to 10 billion euros from the Cohesion Fund for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which have been hit by floods in recent days.
She said this in the Polish city of Wroclaw at a joint press conference with the prime ministers of Austria, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic on Thursday, September 19, European Truth reported.
Von der Leyen assured that Europe supports Poland and other countries affected by the floods and promised to help with disaster relief funding as soon as possible.
‘We will therefore mobilise Cohesion Funds in a flexible and targeted way where you need them most,’ she announced.
The European Commission chief clarified that these funds can be used as pre-funding - that is, as soon as the funds become available - and without co-financing, as it is 100 per cent European funding.
‘These are extraordinary times and extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. According to a preliminary estimate, 10 billion euros could be mobilised from Cohesion Funds for the affected countries,’ she announced.
