Media: Israel Has Been Preparing Operation With Explosive Pagers For Hezbollah In Lebanon For At Least 15 Years

A US intelligence source revealed the details.

Israel is involved in the production of pagers that exploded militants of the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah this week. Such a “supply chain replacement” operation has been planned for at least 15 years.

This was reported by ABC TV channel, citing a source in American intelligence.

According to the sources, the US Central Intelligence Agency considers such operations too dangerous for civilians, so it does not apply them in its practice.

The source confirmed that front companies created by Israeli intelligence were involved in planning this operation in Lebanon. At the same time, some of the employees of the enterprises did not know for whom they actually worked.

According to ABC, one such company was Hungary-registered BAC Consulting, which contracted to produce pagers on behalf of Gold Apollo in Taiwan.

However, the company did not respond to journalists' requests.

A representative of the Hungarian government told the TV channel that the pagers had never been to Hungary, and the company was only a “trade intermediary”, having no production or operating sites in the country.”

Mass pager explosion in Lebanon

On September 17, pagers in the pockets or hands of militants of the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah exploded en masse in Lebanon. These devices were used by members of the group for communication.

Hezbollah accuses Israel, or rather the Mossad's external intelligence service, of blowing up the pagers. In turn, Israel does not comment on this incident.

Subsequently, Reuters reported that Israel's Mossad foreign intelligence service planted a small amount of explosives in 5,000 Taiwanese pagers imported by the Lebanese group Hezbollah months before the blasts.

At the same time, The New York Times, citing unnamed interlocutors, reported that the pagers contained one to two ounces of explosives and a remote switch to trigger the explosion.
