Ukrainian Armed Forces Burned 44 Units Of Russian Equipment Near Kurakhove

The combat work of the “dragons” was shown on video.

The Russians are determined to break through Ukrainian lines outside Kurakhove, just west of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. On September 12, the Russians attacked with 46 vehicles, which was a record for that sector. Exactly a week later on September 19, they broke their own record — and attacked with 52 vehicles. Both attacks failed. Forbes columnists reported on these combat episodes.

The Ukrainian 46th Air Mobile Brigade, holding the line between Donetsk in the east and Kurakhove in the west, fought back with thermite-spewing drones, artillery, tanks and infantry—and destroyed, disabled or damaged 44 of the 98 attacking vehicles while killing 72 Russians on Thursday alone.

The Special Kherson Cat channel on the X network published a video of combat work by Ukrainian units. The authors of the post specified that on September 12, the Defense Forces fighters destroyed 15 combat vehicles, including 9 infantry fighting vehicles, 2 tanks, 2 armored personnel carriers, and 2 motorcycles, and also disabled 11 infantry fighting vehicles.

Strategic importance and slowing down the offensive

The publication notes that the Russian attacks in this direction are focused on capturing the Ukrainian stronghold of Pokrovsk, 20 miles northwest of Kurakhove. The Russian offensive made steady progress until last month, when Russian troops stopped just ten kilometers outside Pokrovsk and could not continue the offensive.

According to the Center for Defense Strategies (CDS), the slowdown in the Russian offensive is due to a lack of resources to conduct simultaneous offensive operations on several fronts, which is also observed in the Zaporizhzhia region and on the Ukrainian salient in the Kursk region of Russia.

But the situation is also complicated for the Ukrainian side. Kyiv is forced to distribute forces between defense in the east and south and its own offensive in the Kursk region. Despite the arrival of new brigades of the Ukrainian National Guard, the problem of a shortage of modern armored vehicles for a number of units remains relevant.
