The group of saboteurs was headed by a former MP.
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained members of the FSB agent network headed by an ex-member of the banned Party of Regions who coordinated sabotage operations, in particular planning the murder of journalist Dmytro Gordon.
In total, according to the SSU press service, the network included four people, including the former MP. All of them have been detained.
The Russian agency was planning a series of bombings on railway tracks, including blowing up one of the tracks in Kyiv region.
However, the tasks also included collecting data on Ukrainian figures who were of ‘interest’ to the Russian secret service with a view to their subsequent ‘liquidation’.
Ukrainian journalist Dmytro Gordon was among those whom the Russian special services were preparing to assassinate.
During the searches of the detainees, communications equipment and electronic devices with evidence of intelligence and subversive activities in favour of the Russian Federation were found and seized.
Now all four detainees are in custody. Depending on the offences committed, they have been reported on suspicion under the articles of terrorist act, state treason and sabotage.
