Foreign Guests Refuse To Go To Russian Forum In Vladivostok

Only two top officials came: Putin and the Malaysian Prime Minister.

The Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) has started its work in Vladivostok, Russia. The programme of the EEF provides for more than a hundred events, the main of which will be the plenary session to be held on September 5, at 3 p.m. local time with the participation of Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim and Vice Chairman of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng, Primamedia.Ru reported.

Six thousand guests from more than 70 countries were expected on Russky Island, but the number turned out to be much less.

‘Kommersant’ quoted Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that the number of foreign participants in the EEF had decreased as a result of the threat of sanctions. Peskov said: ‘Pressure from detractors and threats of sanctions have affected the number of participants in the Far Eastern Economic Forum, but the situation will improve with time and there will be more foreign guests.’

The Russian delegation at the forum is represented by six deputy prime ministers, eleven ministers, nine heads of federal agencies, the prosecutor general and heads of 23 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
