The accident occurred at about 00:13 on January 1 at the intersection of Primrose Hill Road and Regent's Park Road in central London.
The car drove into a crowd of people watching the New Year's fireworks and hit a 21-year-old man. After that, the driver left the scene of the accident and drove along Primrose Hill, where he hit another pedestrian.
According to police, the 21-year-old Londoner received minor injuries. The second pedestrian, a 59-year-old man, was treated by medics and then taken to hospital. His life is not in danger.
Police arrested the 40-year-old driver on suspicion of dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm, and drug possession.
