The Ukrainian military have repelled a Russian offensive in Kursk region, which they carried out in six waves. The enemy used 50 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and civilian vehicles for the attack.
The AFU military reported destroying a lot of Russian vehicles during the offensive, says a new review by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
At the same time, the report said, the Russians managed to take two settlements - Leonidovo and Aleksandriya in the vicinity of Sudzha during a reinforced mechanised offensive of up to a battalion in size.
The Russians also advanced near Pogrebki. And although Russian war correspondents claimed that this village was already under their control, the Institute noted that it had found no confirmation of these statements.
In turn, the AFU recently advanced northwest of Sudzha. Geolocation footage indicates that Ukrainian troops have advanced in western Nikolayevka.
In particular, the Ukrainian military are counterattacking around Pogrebki, Novaya Sorochina (north-west of Sudzha), Staraya Sorochina and Nikolayevka.
The report indicated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that as of 9 January, 4,000 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded in the fighting in Kursk Oblast. Analysts noted that Zelensky's statement indicates that the Ukrainian armed forces killed or wounded about a third of the North Korean troops.
