Aviation Expert Points Out Important Nuances In Destroying Russian Mi-8s With Marine Drones

Ukrainian specialists have created a unique drone.

The other day Ukrainian scouts shot down two Russian Mi-8 helicopters with the help of Magura V5 marine drones. This case demonstrated that several complex technical problems that made such an operation possible have been solved.

Valery Romanenko, an aviation expert, leading research officer of the State Museum of Aviation named after Antonov, explained on air of FREEДOM TV channel that Ukrainian specialists have created a drone that additionally has firepower for self-defence and support of actions of other drones.

‘To apply such systems, it is necessary to create, firstly, a good detection system of the enemy object that is striking the drones. In addition, an excellent targeting system, as well as to adapt the missile itself to surface use. It must be realised that the missile will be flooded with seawater while moving. In other words, it must work reliably in difficult sea conditions. And all these tasks have been solved,’ he emphasised.

According to the expert, a targeting system, which works stably even despite the complexities of sea conditions and boat movement, has been developed for the maritime drone. Romanenko noted that the efficiency of the Ukrainian equipment was demonstrated at the moment of the missile launch.

It is known that the crews of both helicopters were killed. The expert emphasised that they were in marine life suits, but the helicopters are not equipped with the system of their conditioning.

‘Therefore, there is no difference between having these suits and not having them. It is unlikely that they were rescued within 20-30 minutes, and a person cannot withstand more in the winter sea,’ Valery Romanenko stated.
