Another ‘Parasitism’ Innovation

A new restriction has been in effect since January 1.

A change in the “parasitism” law has been introduced in Belarus since January 1, 2025. The innovation is provided for by amendments to the laws on employment issues. Those who are included in the “parasite” database already pay full rates for some housing and communal services — heating, water heating and gas, writes «Зеркало».

Starting this year, Belarus has introduced a new requirement for those who apply for unemployment benefits from the employment center. To do this, you must be “in an employment relationship for at least five years before registering as unemployed.”

An alternative is work under civil contracts (that is, under a labor agreement). But in this case, there is an additional requirement — payment of insurance premiums to the Social Security Fund.

In 2024, unemployment benefits amounted to a maximum of two basic units, that is, 80 rubles. But some categories, for example, those raising children, are given a 10% raise.

In 2025, the authorities intend to introduce a fixed amount of unemployment benefits. It must be determined by the government.

Notably, in 2024 it was reported that the authorities continue to discuss possible new restrictions for those who ended up in the “parasite” database. It is possible that stricter free medical care may be introduced for those working abroad.
