In 2025, eight shopping Sundays are planned in Poland. Shops will be open:
▪ 26 January
▪ 13 April
▪ 27 April
▪ 29 June
▪ 31 August
▪ 7 December
▪ 14 December
▪ 21 December.
In previous years, there have been seven shopping Sundays, MOST writes. But at the end of 2024, the country adopted a law declaring December 24 as a holiday. In order to compensate for the loss of trade, not two but three Sundays before Christmas Eve were declared trading Sundays.
Could There Be More Trade Sundays in Poland?
In 2024, the Rolska 2050 party introduced a bill that would increase the number of shopping Sundays to two per month. It was proposed that employees who would work on trading Sundays would be paid double rate and given an extra day off. The document caused a lot of controversy, but it was allowed to go to committee.
Who Works On Non-Shopping Sundays?
On any Sundays in Poland, shops at railway stations and airports, as well as small shops, are allowed to trade, provided that the owner or a member of his family works behind the counter. Usually Żabka, Carrefour Express and Carrefour Market shops operate in this way on non-shopping Sundays.
In addition, the sale of certain goods by specialised retailers is allowed on non-shopping Sundays. For example, petrol stations, pharmacies, flower shops, souvenir and church shops, ticket offices and some other retailers are open.
