Drone Raid On St. Petersburg: Pulkovo Airport Closed Second Time In 24 Hours

Flights are temporarily not being accepted or departed.

At Pulkovo Airport (St. Petersburg, Russia), early on Saturday morning, January 4, restrictions were introduced on aircraft flights. The “Carpet” plan has been introduced at this air harbor for the second time since the beginning of the day.

This was reported by Astra and other Russian Telegram channels.

The first time at Pulkovo Airport, after midnight, planes were also not allowed to land or take off.

Russian media stated that the restrictions were then introduced “for security purposes”.

At the same time, the governor of the Leningrad Region later said that one drone was allegedly shot down in the region by air defense systems.

Now in the morning, Rosaviatsia reported that flights are temporarily not being accepted or departed “for security purposes”.

“To ensure the safety of civil aircraft flights, temporary restrictions have been introduced on the operation of St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport since 07:45 Moscow time. The airport is temporarily not accepting or sending flights. Aircraft crews, air traffic controllers and airport services are taking all necessary measures to ensure flight safety — this is the main priority,” the department said in a statement.

As the Shot Telegram channel writes, the St. Petersburg airport introduced the “Carpet” plan for the second time in 24 hours this morning. At the same time, 6 aircraft landing are currently in the holding area near Lake Ladoga.

According to preliminary data, Pulkovo has restricted operations due to the threat of an attack using drones.
