Swedish Supership HMS Belos Arrives In Gulf Of Finland On Mission

This ship has universal equipment for underwater reconnaissance.

The Swedish Navy's special ship HMS Belos arrived in the Gulf of Finland on Sunday, January 5, to take part in the investigation of the cable break between Estonia and Finland.

This was reported by the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper and the Finnish Navy, informs “European Pravda”.

It is noted that the ship's crew, which is equipped with universal rescue equipment, is helping the Finnish authorities in the investigation of damage to underwater cables.

As journalists report, Belos has exceptional capabilities, and the Swedish Navy praises it as the most modern vessel in the world in its industry.

The special ship Belos specializes in underwater rescue missions. It is 105 meters long and 18 meters wide, and its displacement is more than 6 thousand tons. Its crew consists of about 40 people.

The newspaper notes that Finland does not have a Belos-type rescue boat, as the Finnish navy no longer has submarines.

Belos is part of the Swedish Navy's first submarine flotilla, along with five submarines. The Swedish submarines, like Belos, are based in Karlskrona.

The ship is said to have versatile equipment for underwater rescue missions, as well as for underwater reconnaissance. The vessel is equipped with a helipad, underwater robots and a pressure chamber for divers.

Belos also has “dynamic positioning” capabilities, meaning that it can maintain its position relative to the seabed without an anchor, using position information and propellers.

The Finnish Navy, for its part, has announced that it is working closely with Belos. They will provide official assistance to the police, including with the mine countermeasure vessel Vahterpää, the oil spill response vessel Hylkee and tugboats.

Captain Tuomas Runola, commander of the Finnish Navy's deep-sea diving department, says that in the current situation, submarines are ready to carry out missions deep on the seabed if necessary.
