The Israeli Government Has Approved An Agreement With Hamas

The Palestinians have pledged to release all hostages within three days.

The Israeli government has approved a hostage release agreement with Hamas. The Palestinians have pledged to release all hostages within three days.

According to The Times of Israel.

According to the agreement, the Israeli army will withdraw to new positions inside the Gaza Strip, maintaining control over about 53% of the enclave.

After that, Hamas will release all 48 Israeli hostages held by the terrorists within 72 hours.

The release of the hostages, in exchange for some 2,000 Palestinian prisoners convicted of security crimes and the partial withdrawal of IDF forces, constitutes the first phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza.

A majority of cabinet ministers voted in favor of the agreement, among them Minister Ofir Sofer of the Religious Zionism party of radical Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, while other ministers of that political force opposed it.

The document was also not supported by all representatives of the ultra-nationalist Otzma Yehudit party.
