Thanks to the absence of a cab, the volume of the cargo area has increased by 25%.
Sikorsky unveiled an unmanned version of the UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter at the Association of the United States Army's AUSA 2025 show. Features of the helicopter named the magazine The Aviationist.
S-70UAS U-Hawk received a loading platform with hinged doors in the front of the fuselage. The absence of a cockpit has increased cargo volume by 25 percent. The helicopter uses the Matrix control system, which provides crewless flight.
The company says the unmanned helicopter was developed in ten months. Sikorsky vice president Rich Benton emphasized that the manufacturer can quickly and on a large scale convert conventional helicopters into drones.
U-Hawk can stay in the air for up to 14 hours without refueling, and the range is about three thousand kilometers. The helicopter can be used to carry various cargoes and launch small drones.
In June, Sikorsky unveiled the S-97 Raider reconnaissance and attack helicopter in Europe for the first time. The machine, which made its first flight in 2015, was shown during the Paris Air Show.
