The country's authorities have already started working with the European Union.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that the timing of the official application for EU membership depends on many factors.
As "European Truth" reports, the Armenian minister said this in an interview with DW.
Mirzoyan noted that Armenia has a law that obliges the government to "strive to join the European Union."
"When we will apply, I can't say exactly: maybe next month, maybe next year. It depends on many factors. But as I have already said, this is our official policy," he emphasized.
According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, the Armenian authorities have already started working with the European Union, significantly deepening bilateral relations.
"We have a Comprehensive Extended Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the EU. And we have already started the process of visa regime simplification. I think this process is going quite successfully. We are also negotiating several new documents and have completed work on a new partnership program," he added.
Answering a question about how soon visa regime simplification with the EU may take place if such an agreement with the bloc is reached, the Armenian Foreign Minister said, "It is difficult to predict. But we can say two years. A year to two years is quite a realistic term".
Reminder, in early 2025, the Armenian authorities officially set a course to join the EU.
In June, the sides reached an agreement on the cooperation agenda, particularly in the issues of economic development and sustainability.
