Three important areas are in the crosshairs.
The European Union plans to impose tougher restrictions on the Russian Federation, which will affect three key areas.
The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this.
After an informal European summit in Copenhagen, she noted that the time has come to increase pressure on Russia and to this end the EU has proposed a new approach to sanctions.
"We are no longer proposing phased sanctions, but much tougher measures on energy, financial services and trade," von der Leyen said.
The European Commission president added that this is part of the 19th package of sanctions being discussed right now.
We all agree that we need a true shift in how Europe thinks and acts on defense.
Including a precise, pan-European plan.
Today we discussed Europe's 2030 Readiness roadmap, with clear milestones & objectives.

On September 19, the European Commission put forward for discussion by EU member states the 19th package of sanctions against Vladimir Putin's regime.
The new restrictions, in particular, envisage a complete refusal to import Russian gas to European countries until January 1, 2027.
EU ambassadors may agree on the new sanctions package in the coming days.
