Ryanair Has Called For Drones Interfering With Airports In Europe To Be Shot Down

The company's CEO criticized EU leaders.

Controversy over airspace security is intensifying in Europe, with a series of drone incidents paralyzing airport operations, prompting criticism of EU leadership and calls for drastic measures.

This is reported by Politico.

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has criticized EU leaders for failing to protect strategic sites from drone attacks. He said in an interview that drones disrupting airports should be destroyed immediately.

"Why aren't we shooting down these drones? If a Russian military plane crosses NATO airspace, it is intercepted. Why is it different with drones?" - he noted.

O'Leary said drones knocked out airports in Poland for four hours three weeks ago, and last week similar incidents affected Denmark.

"This is creating disruption and we are calling for action," he added.

Drone Wall Doubts

The Ryanair chief also questioned the effectiveness of the so-called "Drone Wall".

"I don't think the drone wall has any effect. Do you think the Russians can't launch a drone from Polish territory?" - he said.

O'Leary sharply criticized European leaders, "I have no faith in European leaders who sit around drinking tea and eating cookies. If you can't even protect a flight over France, what chance do you have of protecting us from Russia?"

EU Airspace Violations

In recent weeks, NATO countries have recorded provocations by Russian Federation. Among them are infiltrations of drones and military aircraft into European airspace.

On September 9, Russian drones flew into Poland, and on September 19, three MiG-31 fighter jets crossed the Estonian border and stayed in the sky over the country for more than 12 minutes. The incident was the most serious in two decades.

A few days later, unknown drones forced the temporary closure of Denmark's main airport and were spotted over Oslo. Similar incidents were also recorded over a military airbase and the Karlskrona archipelago in Sweden.
