The White House is preparing to announce massive staff cuts at a number of federal agencies. As CNN reports, citing sources in the administration, the official list could appear in the coming days.
What is known about the new cuts in the United States
According to one official, the decision on the cuts (RIFS) could be unveiled over the weekend - on Saturday or Sunday. While some details are still being finalized, much of the list has already been generated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in cooperation with federal agencies.
President Donald Trump met with OMB chief Russell Vought before writing in Truth Social that they are analyzing "which of the many pro-Democratic agencies" are to be cut and whether such changes would be temporary or permanent.
According to CNN, agencies with diversity, equity and inclusion policies were most at risk. The key criterion, according to the publication's sources, was their inconsistency with the president's new priorities.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt reiterated that position.
"We are looking at agencies that are not aligned with the president's values and that we believe are a waste of taxpayer money," Leavitt said.
